Theta Alpha ChapterAlbuquerque |
The Theta Alpha Chapter, serving the city of Albuquerque, strives to maintain excellence all areas of our lives, not just in academics.
Membership in the Theta Alpha Chapter is earned by the effective demonstration of the four qualities held in high esteem by the Honor
Society.
Psalms 1:1-3 best sums up these four qualities, "Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers." Knowledge At the beginning of our induction ceremony, the President lights a blue candle. This candle symbolizes knowledge, knowledge based on the foundation of God's Word - Jesus, the Light of the world. Scholarship Scholarship means a commitment to learning. A student is willing to spend hours in reading and studying, knowing the lasting benefits of a cultivated mind. We should continue to learn even when formal education has ended, for education ends only with the end of life. Knowledge is one great element in life which leads to the highest success. It can be acquired only through diligence and effort. Learning furnishes the lamp by which we read the past, and the light which illuminates the future. Candidates have the charge to continually expand their world through the opportunities inherent in scholarship. Character Character is the force within us which distinguishes us from others - it is what we do when no one is watching. Character is used to describe individuality and credibility. It is only by being honest, trustworthy, and reliable that one can respect himself and attain the respect of others. Leadership Because leaders exert a tremendous influence on the community, their hearts must be pure. In taking the initiative in class and extracurricular activities, the real leader strives to achieve goals and aid others to attain the same objective. The leader understands and lives by the Golden Rule, "do to others as you would want others do to you. " The price of leadership is sacrifice. The leader must be willing to yield his or her personal interests for the interests of others and become a servant to all. A leader has self-confidence and will go forward when others hesitate. No matter what power and resources may exist in a country, they are ineffectual without the guidance of a wise and loving leader. True leadership is always needed; thus, to lead is a substantive charge to each of our members. Service Service can be described in various ways. In the routine of the day's work, many opportunities arise to help others. Willingness to work for the benefit of those in need, without monetary compensation or without recognition, is the quality we seek in our membership. The Book of Matthew in the Bible states that he who would want to be great must learn to be a servant. |
